StayCompare is a free browser extension and web tool that helps you save and compare holiday accommodation listings. This policy explains what data the extension handles, where it goes, and your rights.

What data does the extension collect?

When you click Save this listing, the extension reads the following information from the accommodation page you are currently viewing:

• Property name
• Listing URL
• Preview image URL
• Total cost (if visible on the page)
• Number of bedrooms and bathrooms
• Maximum occupancy (sleeps)
• Guest rating
• Location
• Booking site name (e.g. Airbnb, Booking.com)

The extension only reads data when you actively click Save. It does not run passively in the background or monitor your browsing.

Where is the data stored?

All saved listing data is stored locally in your browser using the Chrome storage.local API. It never leaves your device and is never sent to any server, database, or third party.

Does StayCompare share my data?

No. StayCompare does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. There are no analytics, tracking scripts, or advertising components in the extension.

The comparison tool (stay-compare.com)

When you click Compare all saved, your saved listings are encoded directly into the URL and passed to stay-compare.com. This happens entirely in your browser — no data is sent to or stored on our servers. The comparison page reads the URL parameters locally to display your listings.

If you share a comparison link with someone, the listing data is embedded in that link. Only share links with people you are happy to share that information with.

Permissions explained

• activeTab — allows the extension to read the page you are currently viewing when you click Save
• storage — allows the extension to save listings locally in your browser
• scripting — allows the extension to run its scraper on the current page
• host_permissions (<all_urls>) — required to support saving listings from any accommodation site, not just a fixed list

Data retention

Your saved listings remain in your browser until you click Clear all in the extension, or until you uninstall the extension. You are in full control of your data at all times.

Children's privacy

StayCompare is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page. We recommend checking back periodically.
